Woohoo! Thank goodness someone is saying this! Having been one of the kids who never could have hacked Pre-Calc let alone Calc, and never having found a use for the little bit of Trig I took, I would definitely love to see a movement towards the teaching of Statistics. He’s right – we all use Statistics every day!

He is definitely a good salesman! I like the idea that statistics is a larger part of the mathematics curriculum, which is actually what we have trended towards with the integrated math curriculum. I am not sure if it needs to be the culminating class in high school math, though.
As a salesman, he does a good job of selling statistics and taking you away from Calculus. He did not talk about any of the good points of calculus, though. Calculus is not only processes and techniques; it is problem solving on a grand scale with applications to the real world unparalleled by lower level mathematics; it is being able to logically think through a problem and prove something is accurate; it is learning about the infinite, which in our modern day and universe is very important to have a small understanding of.
Before making a judgment on this issue, we would have to investigate it much further and to greater depth than we see from the video.
